What started out as a movement of expression about love, life and the struggles of disadvantaged and oppressed people have been changed to an expression of materialism, thuggery and lewd sexuality. While certainly freedom of artistic expression is important, it is just as important that we recognize the destruction that certain kinds of expression have brought not only to the community but also to the artists themselves. Following the second anniversary of the shooting of her client, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, by rap and hip-hop artist Remy Ma, attorney Lauren P. Raysor announced on August 24 that she is asking all record companies to include a "morality clause" in their contracts with new artists. Ms. Raysor says this will act as an incentive for these artists not to engage in violent or criminal activity and also provides protection for these artists from other people who may intend to inflict great harm on them.
Modern day hip hop has become a battleground where blinged out messiahs of materialism have often gained the upper hand, but MCs OSI and IseQold of the Regiment are the positive force for change in music. OSI had originally formed the Regiment as a vehicle to showcase his skills along with those of his partner C. Reid. Based in Detroit, they had done several shows locally before being selected to be part of the Rawkus 50, a compilation selected by Rawkus Records that represented a who’s who of today’s hottest emerging Hip Hop artists. The project was a success and the Regiment stood alongside some of the best upcoming hip hop in the nation. And while that would’ve been enough for some, OSI was wanting more. After the departure of Reid, OSI connected with IseQold, another Detroit MC who also shared a desire to make music that could speak to more than the materialistic. The battle for the soul of hip hop has been ongoing, but rather than simply watch and complain, OSI and Ise redefined the Regiment as something more than just two men.

MY BEST FREIND
Adrian Dove's Biography
He is a graduate of Compton High School and Harvard University, with a Masters in Education Administration, Research and Development.
His work experiences range from his beginning as a street corner youth gang prevention worker in Watts and East Los Angeles, moving on to institutional and community Parole Officer and later as Director of an experimental in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. While working as a Parole Officer in the California State Prisons and on the streets of Watts and East L.A., he took leave and with guidance from Mrs. Gwen Green, he relocated to Alabama, Carolina and Georgia where he worked directly for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Voter Registration Projects of CORE and SCLC.
While working for the California State Office of the Governor, he authored the Dove Counterbalance IQ Test, which became more popularly known as the "Chitling Test" which is still used regularly in many Universities nationwide. Mr. Dove, also devised and Co-Authored the original "Philadelphia Plan", during his tenure as Deputy Assistant National Director of Contract Compliance in the US Department of Labor. He also wrote articles in the New York Times, Readers Digest, Jet Magazine and others on the nature of race in America.
Adrian Dove, an Army Veteran, subsequently served five years as a Senior Budget Examiner and Management Analyst in the White House, Office of Management and Budget in Washington, DC. During this period he played a key role in the1969 initiation of the District of Columbia's first local voting in its entire history. He served as liaison from the White House to the Philadelphia Region during the D.C. Home Rule negotiations and the transition of the Philadelphia Plan into the succeeding White House administrations for its survival. He organize the Caucus of Blacks in the White House and assisted increasing the number of African Americans in the White House from four professionals to more than 120 during the Nixon Administration.
He returned to California to serve as Charter Director of Los Angeles City's Small Business Agency and simultaneously as Business liaison and Executive Assistant to the Mayor Tom Bradley. He is also the Charter Board Secretary of the Tom Bradley Legacy Foundation, Inc. at UCLA.
In 1991, Mr. Dove was contracted by the County of Los Angeles as Demographer Drafter of the revised maps and justifications for the 7 and 9 District initiative plans for the Los Angeles County ballot. Under a separate contract he also developed a set of statewide plans and delivered the Oral Arguments. As mandated before the California State Supreme Court and its Panel of Masters for the Decennial Redistricting of Assembly, Senate and Congressional Districts.
Mr. Dove served as a Regional Director of HUD for EEO, Fair Employment and Fair Housing and later, during the 1990 Census as the U.S. Census Bureau's, Regional Director for Media, Data Utilization Outreach and Local Government Relations (including liaison to all Native American Tribal Locations throughout the state of California).
For the past 10 years he has worked as a writer and as President of A.D. & Associates, a Management Consulting firm. His principal clients included most of the large Prime Construction and Engineering Firms in Southern California, doing work for the MTA and Municipal Governments Infrastructure elements. During the past two years he and and his firm have served as Personal Advisors on Economic Development to the Government to the Royal Kingdom of Cambodia. During this same period he has also served as a L.A. County Commissioner of Human Relations and as President of CORE-California having performed the 1991 and 2001 Redistricting process for CORE and other organizations including delivering Oral Arguments before the California Bar to deliver these by Mr. Dove for the Los Angeles area in 1992 were significantly adopted by the Supreme Court and remained in place for ten years while affording a continuation of the same number of African American legislators during that entire period.
In 2002 he was called upon by Celes King III to become his successor by moving from the role of State President to that of State Chairman of CORE-CA, the Congress of Racial Equality of California, with General King himself ascending to the role of Chairman Emeritus.
As State Chairman of CORE-CA, Adrian Dove, is determined to continue the legacy of his predecessor Celes King III, and he and his very strong board will be initiating several new initiatives as well. In addition to the handing of a steady flow of complaints. CORE-CA is engaged in producing trailblazing applied research to better human conditions especially especially those of African Americans in the state of California. Anyone interested in joining or supporting the newly invigorated California Congress of Racial Equality, Inc., should contact Adrian Dove or Ron Herbert at 323-296 5464.
